It is with great sadness the Council publishes this article in memory of Geoff.

Geoff passed away during the night of the 27 July.

Below are two more recent stories about Geoff's Council work and as you will see, Geoff served as a Councillor since 1975, which is a total of 32 years loyal service to his community.

The Parish Council will sadly miss Geoff's character, knowledge and commitment to council business, as well as his friendship.

Geoff Witts

In January 2006 the Council recognised Geoff's 30 year service for the Council.

In June 2000, Councillor Geoff Witts commemorated his 25th year of service on Euxton Parish Council shortly after being nominated to become the Chairman for 2000/2001. At the June 2000 Parish Council meeting Councillors presented Geoff with an engraved silver clock in recognition of his long service to the Parish of Euxton.

Geoff was co-opted on to the Council on the 19 June 1975 - over 25 years ago. In this time he has been Chairman 4 times previously. Geoff served as Chairman in 1979/80, 1987/88 and 1993 for two terms until 1995 - a total of four years and in this Millennium year and his 25th year on the Council, he makes it his fifth term as Chairman. He has served under 15 different Chairmen and worked alongside three different Clerks, from Stan Bentham, Bob Bryce from 1982 and now Debra Platt since July 1999.

A GRAND TOTAL OF 55 YEARS ON THE COUNCIL

At the meeting on 19 January 2006 two Parish Councillors were congratulated by the Council for their collective service to the Council and village of 55 years.

Councillor Geoff Witts has served on the Parish Council for 30 years in 2005 and Councillor Tommy Gray 25 years. They were both thanked and praised by the Chair Marie Mercer and the whole Council joined in to commemorate the occassion by making a presentation to each of them.
