Younger members can now join in and be a Councillor...

Following the amendments of the Electoral Administration Act 2006, which came into force on the 1 January 2007 the age restriction to be a Councillor in Local Government has been lowered from 21 to 18 years.

This now means that Council's may attract and benefit from having some younger members of their electoral region on the Council and, younger members of the village have their chance to shape and influence matters in their own area.

Casual Vacancies for Euxton Parish Councillor

Parish Council elections were held on 4 May 2006 and due to there being only 14 Councillor nominations for the 18 seats there were 4 vacant seats. These vacant seats are called casual vacancies and can be filled by the Council, this is known as co-option.

If you are interested in serving as a Councillor you should write to the Clerk giving details of interests, experience and reasons for wishing to serve.

To qualify, a person must be a British subject or citizen of the Irish Republic, over 18 years of age and an elector, must reside within the parish of Euxton, or within 3 miles of it, or occupy as owner or tenant any land or premises therein, or have their principal or only place of work there, and must not be disqualified from holding office as a Councillor (details from the Clerk).

2006 May Elections for Euxton Parish Council - Report

Local Elections will be held this year on 4 May 2006 and will include the election of all the Parish Councillor seats along with two Borough Councillor seats, one in Euxton North and one in Euxton South wards.

The Parish Council is made up of 18 Parish councillors whose terms of office expires to make way for the elections on the 4 May.

The Notice of Election will be displayed before the 24 March 2006 in the Parish noticeboards and nominations for Parish Councillors must be received by noon on the 3 April 2006.

Euxton Parish Council is made up of representatives from three parish areas, is the second largest parish council in the Borough of Chorley - and growing, has the largest number of parish councillor seats of all Chorley parishes and a population of 8,318.

In comparison, Clayton-le-Woods Parish Council is the largest with a population of 14,528 and 15 Parish Councillor seats.

Euxton's three parish areas are the North West which has 8 Parish Councillor seats, Euxton North East with 2 and Euxton South which also has 8 Councillor places.

The three parish areas cover, in the North West, Runshaw Lane, Greenside estate roads, parts of Firbank and Brookside, Cedar and surrounding Avenues, School Lane, part of Wigan Road to Chapel Brook, Euxton Lane including Cherryfields and Canonswood estates.

The North East area comprises Whinney and Pear Tree Lanes, Buckshaw Village, Badgers Walk and Brook House Grove.

The South area covers, Dawbers Lane, Wigan Road south of Chapel Brook, Church Walk and Casterton, Balshaw Lane and two estates each side.
