Tony Dilworth

Tony was elected to the Council in May 2010, but first co-opted on to the Council in August 2007.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2007

My name is Anthony Dilworth, but known as Tony. I was born in Euxton in 1938. I am married to Doreen whom I met at a dance hall in Chorley in 1959 and we have three children and five grandchildren.

I attended St Mary's School in Euxton until leaving at the age of 15 and my first employment was in a cotton mill before moving on to the construction industry.

Like most people of my age, I was drafted into Her Majesty's Forces. Spending time in the Army, first as an infantry man in the Border regiment then transferring to the police. After demob, I did various jobs in building and construction then finally worked for Baxi heating at Chorley, then Bamber Bridge. I worked at Baxi for approximately 30 years, first in building maintenance then as an assembly worker where I became a shop steward. While still at Baxi I was elected by the shop stewards committee to be a works convenor and furthered my union work by being elected to National Committee as a representative for Lancashire and West Yorkshire in the foundry workers union.

Twenty years ago I set up a neighbourhood watch in the area I live and am a founder member of Chorley District Neighbourhood Watch Committee, where I was elected the first Vice Chairman. I have once, in the past, represented Chorley on the National Neighbourhood Watch in London. I have also attended meetings at Police headquarters in Hutton.

I regularly attend the PACT meetings in Euxton and in 2006 I was elected to serve on the St Mary's Euxton Church Committee representing the building and cemetery. For the past ten years I have been groundsman looking after the cemetery, cutting the grass and re-turfing when necessary.

In August 2005 I became a member of Euxton Parish Council. I have seen a lot of changes in Euxton, living here most of my life. Since the beginning of the 1960s when the building industry took off in a big way and developers saw Euxton as a prime location, housing estates have grown and grown taking farm land and lots of fields, woodlands have disappeared along with some wild life. The M6 is a prime example of woodland being destroyed - there used to be a wooded area stretching from Runshaw Lane almost to Dawbers Lane.

Now we are under threat by another developer who wants to quarry Euxton. If this happens Euxton will no longer be the pleasant clean place to live and bring up children. As a resident, and a Parish Councillor, I am totally against this proposal for a quarry and any other development on Greenfield land in Euxton.

As a Councillor, I pledge to do my best to serve the people of Euxton to the best of my ability.

Mary Gray

Mary was elected to the Council in May 2010 but first came on to the Council in 1995.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2002

I was born in Rufford but have lived in Euxton since 1975.

My husband Tommy and I have three grown up daughters, Judith, Sharon and Michelle.

I worked at the Royal Ordinance Factory, British Aerospace for seventeen years and then at the Hartwood Hotel for five years prior to retiring.

Being a Parish Councillor for over 16 years, since 1985 has involved me with a lot of local issues and major projects such as the Millennium Green. I have been the Chair of the Leisure Committee of the Council for over 8 years. This committee debates play areas, football pitches, the pavilion and the provision of any new amenities for children or youngsters.

Besides the Parish Council I am a Governor of Primrose Hill Primary School and a group observer for Chorley Borough Council.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, March 2002

My wife Mary and I have lived in Euxton since 1975 and we have three grown up daughters. I worked for Leyland Bus for 21 years and now work for Ruttle Plant Hire. I have been on the Parish Council since 1980 and through being a parish councillor have past served as governor to two of the local primary schools, Balshaw Lane and Primrose Hill. Besides being a parish councillor I also serve as borough councillor for Euxton North.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2011

I was born Ashton in Makerfield near Wigan, where I lived until moving to Buckshaw Village in 2007.

I am employed as a Call Centre Manager for a large optical company based in South Manchester where I have worked since 2005.
During my spare time my interests include travelling and socialising with friends.

I believe that the Parish Council really can make a difference, and enhance the quality of life for the people of Euxton.

Eric Jones

Eric was elected to the Council in May 2010 but was originally co-opted to the Parish Council at the Council meeting in November 2002 and was successful at the May 2006 election.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2004

I was born in Preston and have lived in Euxton for 46 years. After leaving school I started work as an Apprentice Electrician at the then Royal Ordnance Factory on Euxton Lane, and, I am still there today (yes it is still open and will be for a few years to come). Having had a varied career which included management experience in the Maintenance Department and later as a Production Manager I recently took on the post of Security Manager for the facility and have responsibilities for Safe Systems of Work.

I was keen to be a Parish Councillor as I was concerned that Euxton was losing its character and tradition, being swallowed up by the ever-increasing need for houses.

I would like to see Euxton stay as a village where families can feel safe and enjoy life. I have a particular interest in the youth of the village, and it is here that I would like to improve the facilities that are provided for recreational use, and would value any idea's you may have that could help along the way to achieving this.

Councillor Eric Jones

Eric Jones

Brian Leyden - vice Chairman

Brian was elected to the Council in May 2010 but was first co-opted to the Parish Council at the Council meeting in September 2007.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, March 2010

I was born in Prestwich, Greater Manchester and have spent the whole of my life living to the north of Manchester. I married my wife, Joan, in 1962 and since then we have moved house no less than 10 times finally moving to Euxton in July 2001, the best move of our lives !

My youngest of 2 daughters, her husband and our grand daughter also live in Euxton. My eldest daughter and grand son live in Bolton.
I spent the majority of my working life in textiles working in Stockport and West Yorkshire.

My main interests are family, sports, travel and socialising. I have been a season ticket holder at Bolton Wanderers for the last 25 years and still have not seen sense.

I feel very strongly that we must do all we can to maintain the quality of life we have here in Euxton and became a member of the Parish Council, in September 2007, so I can do my bit to help. I regularly attend the PACT meetings at both Euxton and Buckshaw Village, also the meetings of Buckshaw Village Residents Association (as parts are in my ward).

I am excited about the number of projects currently being promoted by the Parish Council all of which will help towards keeping life in Euxton so special.

Councillor Brian Leyden

John Matson - Chairman

John was elected to the Council in May 2010 but first joined the Council in 1993.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2001

John joined the Parish Council in 1993. He and his wife Diane moved to Euxton over 15 years ago to raise their two sons Anthony and Robert.

In addition to John's many interests, gardening, fishing, stamp collecting and painting in water colour, all of which he would like to spend more time doing, he works very hard for the Parish Council.

John says about the Council, "All the Councillors are volunteers and put in alot of time and effort and do a good job putting the wishes of the residents of Euxton first. There have been some exciting projects undertaken recently such as the transformation of land to provide Euxton with a Millennium Green and restoring the Stocks but the coming year alos brings new projects such as a pavement sweeper and pilot schems to improve the look of the village such as the raised garden beds.

I am proud to be on the Council, it gives me a great sense of satisfaction and enjoyment to give something back to the village".

John Matson

Alan Platt

Alan was was elected to the Council in May 2010 but was originally co-opted to the Parish Council at the Council meeting in June 2006.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, June 2010

I lived in the High Peak, Derbyshire until 1994, when I moved to Euxton with Debra, my wife. We have a daughter, Katie, who is just 6 and attends Balshaw Lane School and I have a son, James who is 28 and lives near Manchester.

I started work at NatWest, in 1972, and have since worked for several asset finance companies and a telecommunications supply company. I am currently Clerk to 3 other parish councils in the Chorley area, and was fortunate enough to be elected Borough Councillor for the Astley and Buckshaw Ward at the recent elections.

I am a lifelong Man City fan (yes, one of those who can remember winning a trophy) so I am equipped with a very thick skin and used to disappointment and adversity - and I now relish the thought of the only team to come from Manchester achieving total domination!!!

As a Parish Council, I believe we need to do all we can for the village and its residents. I have been involved in the Euxton in Bloom Group, the Skatepark Committee and the Pear Tree Greens Committee, where we are hoping to provide much needed additional sports facilities for the village.

I am also very proud of what this Council has achieved to date and am pleased to be associated with, what I believe to be, generally, the cleanest village in Chorley.

Councillor Alan Platt

Katrina Reed

Katrina was elected to the Council in April 2011 and welcomed to her first meeting 14 April 2011.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, December 2011

I moved to Euxton 2 years ago, in time for the worst Winter for along time.
I will have been married 46 years next January and have 3 adult children and 5 grandsons ages 24 to 4, my best achievements ever!

We moved to Euxton to be close to my son and daughter in law to help with Grandma 'duties', l moved from a small village in Cheshire just 6 miles from Chester. A big move for us but no regrets and have found my neighbours, and Euxton people in general, to be friendly and helpful in all aspects of day to day living.

I enjoy reading, walking, gardening, swimming, baking, keeping hens in my back garden, holidays at 'Centre Parks' with Tony and my family.

I am now semi retired but my job was as audit clerk and book keeper, first for a firm of Accountants and laterly for a software company in Macclesfield. After being made redundant in December 1999, have since been part of a small graphic design and printng company where I am Company Secretary and book keeper etc, working from home, ah the wonders of the wwweb.

I became involved with the Parish Council after attending for some 18 months the meetings as a member of the public, my initial reason being the Pear Tree Green recreation proposal, now that has been resolved my next concern is the proposed development on the fields along Euxton Lane.

After getting over being the new girl on the block I am now in the swing of things attending training sessions and joining working groups etc, very aware of the trust that the people of Euxton have placed on their Parish Councillors to help maintain the 'rural' feel of Euxton despite being so close to Chorley and the motorways.

Barrie Robins

Barrie was elected to the Council in May 2010 after first being co-opted to the Parish Council at the Council meeting in March 2008

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, September 2009

I was born in Edgware in North London and in 1961 moved to Cheshire and made a further move to Astley Village in 1983.

I have worked in the construction industry since leaving school and from 1999 onwards for a Ceramics Company in Euxton as a Technical Design Engineer.

It is now 3 years since my wife and myself became residents of Euxton.
We have both taken a great interest in the village and, being keen walkers, can regularly be seen on the footpaths and country lanes walking our Border Collie dog.
We enjoy so much the countryside surrounding this village and with the willingness to see it preserved, I decided that I could best look after it by getting involved with the Parish Council of which I am now a member. I have taken particular interest in the Pear Tree Greens project and other environmental type projects.

I am a member of a few wildlife organisations and enjoy pets, currently having not only a dog but also a cat and a few chickens. I have a few hobbies mostly related to woodworking. I do woodcarving, walking stick making and woodturning and occasionally give demonstrations of the craft of Pole Lathe Turning, which to those who don't know is an ancient method of wood turning using natural means (without electrical motors).

My wife and I are both members of Euxton Parish Church and support their organisations, I am also a keen Bowler and look forward to the project to create a Bowling Club for Euxton.

Councillor Barrie Robins

Eveline Sutton

Eveline was elected to the Council in May 2010 but was first co-pted to the Council in January 1994.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, September 2001

Eveline joined the Parish Council on 20 January 1994 and was Chairman in 2002/3.

She has always been involved with local life since moving to Euxton from Liverpool, due to her husbands work, some 30 years ago. When her three sons were younger Eveline was involved with the PTFA and helping at Balshaw Lane school from trips to assisting in school. As the boys got older she became a trustee of the Youth Club through the Parish Council. She also finds time to be a governor of St Mary's Catholic Primary School. All this whilst looking after her family and working full time at the family business in Preston with her husband.

Eveline says about the council, "the mix of people on the parish council with different backgrounds, ages, experiences bring new ideas, views and solutions to old problems - but all are in the best interest of the village and that is main reason why I find enjoyment and satisfaction from being a councillor".

Paul Thomas

Paul was elected to the Council in May 2010 but originally was co-opted to the Parish Council at the Council meeting in January 2010.

Councillor Profile from the Euxton WEB, due to appear late 2010

I was born in Liverpool in 1962 where I lived until moving to Hesketh Bank in 1998 and Buckshaw Village in 2006.

I have three children, Jessica, Helen and Matthew.

When I left school I worked for Asda for a couple of years then took a TOPS course in computer programming. I have been employed in IT since, working for Local Government, British Gas, the Department for Work and Pensions, Ministry of Defence, ING, Royal Bank of Scotland and HM Revenue & Customs.

During my spare time I like working with young people, walking my dog Rex and visiting the mid Wales coast.

For the Parish Council, I am a supporter of the Skatepark and Pear Tree Green Projects which can hopefully provide much needed recreational facilities for Euxton and Chorley.

Councillor Paul Thomas

Vyn Thornhill

Vyn was elected to the Parish Council in May 2010.

Councillor Profile, appeared in the Euxton WEB March 2011

Having lived in Lancashire virtually all my life I have lived in Euxton for the past twenty years.

I was a civil engineer. My background was in traffic and highway engineering but I joined the Highways Agency where I became Project Director of a large portfolio of major new motorway and trunk road schemes. I took early retirement from the Agency and then worked as a freelance with Liverpool Council project managing several schemes in the city centre road network.

My interests for the main part lie outdoors. Our house is right on the edge of the village looking out over fields and my wife, Gerry, and I take pleasure in watching the wildlife in and around the garden. I am a keen walker and am generally interested in the wider environment –nature, history, architecture etc. I enjoy food and cooking it, but with more enthusiasm than skill, and have been known to take the odd glass of wine!

Retirement has given me the opportunity to become more involved in the life of the village through being a member of the Parish Council. I think Euxton is a great place with many attractive features. However, I do also think that the vast amount of relatively new development has rather overwhelmed the old village and there is still more to come. The challenge is that of preserving and enhancing the village assets where possible whilst seeking to provide the facilities that it needs and tackling some of the less attractive features.

Through the Euxton Web and other sources I have been aware of the work put in by the Council and its staff to meet this challenge and, as a new member, I look forward to joining them.

Keith briefly came off the Council following the May 2006 election but was co-opted back on in June 2006.
