The Parish Council receives numerous items of correspondence, and below are some questions from residents, which we have answered as they may be of interest to others.
It has been brought to the Council's attention on a few occasions about the traffic chaos caused at the junction of School Lane and Wigan Road early on a Friday evening, when the disco closes at the Community Centre.
People picking youngsters up after the disco, park down the top section of School Lane, which blocks access going both ways and causes a traffic stand-still - instead of using the car park, just a few metres away. The inconsiderate parking not only causes traffic problems getting through from and to the lights on Wigan Road but prevents access to Old School Lane and worse than all these - it causes obstructions and risks to the young people coming out of the centre as they can't cross School Lane safely.
The Parish Council has reported to this problem to Lancashire County Council numerous times, and is on their list of 'things to do' to possibly impose some type of parking restrictions. It was on the Parish Council's plan to LCC and appears on LCC's Traffic Regulation Orders report to be actioned.
The Community Beat Manager will be attending, whenever possible to move obstructors on.
A resident wrote to the Council, anonomously hence the response on the website, to ask the Council if they would replace the bench which used to be sited at the junction of Pincock Brow and Wigan Road as it had been demolished some time ago by a car accident.
The Council has already had the seat replaced with a new one early in 2005 and here is a photograph of it. It has a very prominent position right at the junction of the two roads looking up Wigan Road towards the Methodist Church. On the photo you can see up Wigan Road heading towards Charnock Richard on the left and down Pincock Brow on the right.
