Great British Spring Clean

On Saturday, Euxton Parish Council held the first of its two planned litter picks as part of the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ campaign and were overwhelmed with volunteers in Buckshaw Village. Over 45 people turned up to take part and worked in teams to collect a huge amount of litter around the commercial and undeveloped areas and the approach to Buckshaw Parkway.

County Councillor Aidy Riggott who led the litter pick had initially been contacted by part of the team from Euxton St Mary's Primary School who were looking for an opportunity for children to take up the challenge of cleaning up our local environment and supporting their children in their bid to make a change.

This was taken to Euxton Parish Council by County Councillor Aidy Riggott and it was quickly agreed to arrange some dates with the Parish Councils own kit as part of ‘The Keep Britain Tidy Big Spring Clean’ events that are currently taking place across the country.

County Councillor Aidy Riggott commented “It was a great morning with a superb turnout and representation from the children of Euxton St Mary's, Beavers from Euxton ROF Scout Group who were working towards a badge and lots of residents keen to do their bit to keep our community tidy and litter free”

Clerk to the Parish Council and Euxton Councillor Debra Platt arranged all of the kit for the volunteers and afterwards removed circa 24 bags full of litter adding “It was amazing to see so many children and young people keen to get involved, I think it was the largest number of rubbish bags we have ever collected. The bags more than filled a large industrial bin unit and I estimate it was over 1,750 litres of rubbish.”

The next Euxton Parish Council litter pick is on Saturday 13th April from 10:30 to 12:00 and volunteers are to meet at Euxton Skatepark.
