February 2012 udpate

Euxton Parish Council put a further amount of £30,000 into the skatepark budget in January and we are now going out to a tender process to find a design/build contractor to build a site in Euxton.

If you are registered with us as a user, we will be mailing more information out to you seperately as to how you can help in this process. It is hoped the skatepark can be built this summer and will cost up to £175,000 for the park itself plus some extras such as bins and fencing on top so could run up to £185,000.

The Euxton Ramp Event was successful and well attended - photos will follow.
October 2011 update

We have heard from the Lancashire Environmental Fund we have been granted a further £30K towards the fund for the Skatepark.

This takes the total fund up to £147K, and we are awaiting the final application result before the end of December from Sport England.

September 2011 update

The meeting on the 31 August was well attended. Updates were given regarding the funding total and the outstanding bids.

The attendees were informed of the two events advertised below and the group discussed fundraising ideas.

August 2011 update

There is a meeting of the Skatepark Group on Wednesday, 31 August 2011, at 6.30pm in the Annexe of Euxton PC Community Centre.

July 2011 Update

The offer from Veolia is £50K towards the fund.  This is excellent news.

We have one outstanding grant fund which has indicated it likes the project but wanted to wait to see what Veolia offered - when this comes in then we will be looking for 100% commitment from all to raised additional funds.

All fund-raising will add to the fund to get to the target.

The news on the final grant will be known early October but fund-raising will hopefully begin in August.

July 2011

At short notice in July (3 days notice) Euxton was invited to attend Veolia Environmental Trust's Board Meeting on the 19 July to present to the Board Members for this grant.

The Boards meeting was in London and a presentation was given to approx 10 Board Members. The Board were due to make its decision on the 19 July and we should hear soon its decision.

This application was submitted asking for up to £95K, but Veolia make an offer of support rather than the whole figure. Its normal grants are approximately £30K or £40K.

June 2011

Following the submission of the full application for the Veolia Environmental Trust Euxton was invited to attend it Grant Committee meeting. The project was presented to the 12 members of the committee who asked questions about the project and its position ie, if it had planning permission, match funding, consultations etc.

The decision of the Trust is due in July.

February 2011

Euxton has passed the first hurdle of a major grant fund, the Veolia Environmental Trust, who have invited us to submit a full application for the Skatepark project for Euxton.

The application has been submitted but news won't be know on how successful it has been until late July 2011 at the earliest.

February 2011

Euxton Parish Council budgeted a further £15K into the Skatepark project when it recently set its precept.

This gives a total budget from the Parish Council of £45K, and a confirmed grant of £30K totalling £75K towards the project.

January 2011

A meeting of the Skatepark Group will be called soon, to discuss the project and where it is up to.

There has been expressions of interest shown in the organising of a 'sponsored skate' for you to raise funds for the project and hopefully this will be progressed at the next meeting. Other fund raising ideas will be welcome at the meeting.

The project so far is up to £30,000 from Euxton Parish Council and £30,000 grant from Chorley Council planning fund (total £60K). The design concept favoured by the group at the consultation meeting could cost up to £170,000 so there is still £110,000 to go to reach this stage unless, an alternative, maybe smaller, project is considered.

Fund raising is a key element to this project, and the group has always, from the very beginning known and understood that this project could not proceed without the full funding, but chose an ambitious design which was above the suggested £100,000 goal.

The Council considers its Precept, which is its budget for 2011/2012 in January and following this a better idea will be available as to what the total fund will be.

A history of all the communications and consultations done for this project are documented within one Consultation Evidence document attached here.

November 2010

The final application we had put in for funding, to Tesco, was refused recently.

In the new year we will be arranging a meeting to see what fund raising activities the young people can organise to build on the £60,000 already in the fund.

We have been contacted by one of the group about a Sponsored Skate and he will be bringing his ideas to the meeting to raise interest with the group to get a good turn-out for this event.

Look out for the date, and see you there.

September 2010

Good news and bad news to update.

Following on from the newsletter article in December 2009 (see below) and the follow-up funding meeting with the young people in June the fund raising efforts are beginning to be returned.

The Good News is that the Skatepark Project has been granted £30,000 from an s106 planning fund, administered by Chorley Council recently which, added to the £30,000 already in the fund gives a total of £60,000.

But the bad news is that the Biffa Waste fund has not invited the skatepark project to submit a full application bid.

There is one final bid out with another funder awaiting a response.

When all the bids have received answers a meeting of the skatepark group will be called to encourage fund-raising activities to grow the fund or, the group may wish to have plans re-drawn for a smaller version of the park.

August 2010

Grim news for the project arrived within days of the Youth Bank grant application going in.

Government cuts have now been revealed has left the 2010/11 Youth Capital fund empty. The Youth Capital fund was a five year project, 2010/11 being its last year. This leaves the young peoples skatepark project in limbo until a grant fund can be found which can fund this type of project.

It will be a massive blow to the young people who have worked so hard, so far, to get their project up and running.

June 2010

The meeting on 8 June was very well attended and successful at gathering information from the young enthusiastic Euxton Skate Park Group members to complete some grant application forms.

June 2010

Following the granting of planning permission for the Skatepark project on Southport Road, Euxton a further meeting has been called for young people to get involved with gathering information to complete Grant Application to the Lancashire Youth Bank.

This fund can only be applied to by young people and it is the Skateparks ‘BEST CHANCE’ of obtaining a substantial sum towards the building of the full skatepark design.

The meeting has been arranged for 6.30 pm on Tuesday, 8 June 2010 Euxton PC Community Centre, Wigan Road, Euxton

The event is being attended by LCC Young Peoples Service who can advise the young people on completing the application.

30 March 2010

Planning permission was granted at the Chorley Development Control Meeting.

March 2010

The Planning Application has been submitted to the Borough Planning Authority and will be considered at its Development Control Meeting on Tuesday, 30 March 2010.

December 2009

Euxton WEB newsletter article.

A Public Consultation drop-in event was held on Wednesday, 25 November at Euxton Cricket Club. Members of the public, local residents and the young people who have helped develop the project were invited to view the skate park designs.

Due to the deadline for this WEB we could not include a report of this event, but they will be posted on the website and reported in the next Euxton WEB.

Following the public consultation event, the project designs will be re-visited to see if there needs to be any adjustments made to improve the scheme then, following the choosing of the contractor, the Parish Council will submit a planning application.

Funding bids can only be submitted if the project is in a more advanced state, which is why planning permission needs to be obtained before submitting any funding applications.

Funding applications do take time but much emphasis is placed in the funding application process as to the state of the land where a project is proposed, ie, is it secured, is planning permission gained, have neighbours and public been consulted etc.

If planning permission is gained then the funding applications will begin to be submitted and then it will be a waiting game to see if the project can raise enough funds to carry out the full project.

One of the primary concerns of the Parish Council when they first met with young people at the start of this project was to set a realistic project budget cost of £100k, which was felt to be attainable through funding streams. This was so the hopes of young people were not raised beyond what was thought to be achievable in a reasonable timescale.

The young people were very positive about raising funding so asked the design companies to create the plans in a two budget format so if the funds the young people aspired to raise did materialise then the project could go ahead at the higher cost, taking in a larger site area and creating a larger facility.

If you want to follow any updates on this project, between newsletters, details can be found on our Projects page on Euxton's website.

Further updates will be in future newsletters and it hoped we may some good news for the March issue.

Post 17 July 2009

Members of the core group met with Marc Churchill of Gravity on Thursday night to have a first view of their initial design ideas. Following a few tweaks, Marc will submit the design so they can be viewed, along with Mavericks design which is to be presented next week, to the whole ESP (Euxton Skate Park group).

There have been some logos designed for the ESP by one of its members Thom and one of these will hopefully be chosen at the meeting next week to accompany all of ESPs work.

Post 2 July 2009

Maverick and Gravity have now completed initial designs which they will be presented to the Core Group soon. When they have been tweaked, if needed, then the designs will be shown to the whole group and interested parties. In the meantime, an initial design can be used to submit planning permission and begin planning submission of some grant applications.

Post 22 May 2009

On Thursday 21 May Russ Holbert from Maverick came up for a drop-in with the skaters/BMX/inliners to gather further design ideas and later visited the site to get a clearer idea of the shape and space around the site.

This was a short-notice visit but still attracted 15 of the group to drop-in and help with ideas for the skatepark.

Trips to visit Wakefield Gravity site and skate with Marc Churchill and the new Nottingham or Scarborough Maverick sites to skate with Russ Holbert are now being arranged with the assistance of Lancashire County Council Youth Service workers and these should be in June and July.

Post 23 April 2009

It was a successful meeting with Gravity on the 22 April which had a good attendance of interested skaters/BMX/inliners.

At the meeting a Group name was chosen EUXTON SKATE PARK (ESP) and a core group of people to work on grant applications volunteered.

There were many fund raising ideas supplied by the group and these will be worked on by the core group.

When designs have been submitted by Maverick and Gravity a core group meeting will be arranged.

Skatepark Workshop meeting - Wednesday 18 March 2009 6pm

Over 40 young skaters and BMX'ers attended a workshop, run by Maverick and hosted by Euxton Parish Council in the Euxton PC Community Centre.

Many ideas and suggestions were put forward towards the design of a custom built skatepark for Euxton.

A forum has been created (in its infancy) to bring together the young skaters/bikers to assist them to create a Group to enable them to have a clear voice and exact input into this project and, to assist the Council in applying for grants towards the skatepark.

Location: off Southport Road, adjacent to the Yarrow Valley walk car park.
