Rail works in the village

West Coast Main line power upgrade work

Earlier this week, we wrote to residents in Euxton Junction, Spendmore Lane and Balshaw Lane to inform them about our work to upgrade the overhead electric line cables on the stretch of the West Coast Main line in Chorley.

Work will be carried out along a seven mile stretch of the route each Saturday night from Saturday 4 February 2017 until Sunday 11 June 2017 between the hours of 23:00 09:00 when the railway is not in operation.

Additional work will also be carried out on Sunday 12 March at Balshaw Lane to Euxton between the hours of 22:00 07:00 and from Monday 20 March 2017 to Friday 24 March 2017 between the hours of 22:00 07:00.

The work involves the replacement of cables, and vehicles will be accessing the railway at the following locations:

         Euxton Junction PR255DA
         Spendmore Lane PR75UH
         Balshaw Lane  PR76NW

This important programme to maintain the reliability of our railway will not generate the same noise as piling and foundation work that occurred in the area at Christmas. It will be a moving work site that will progress along the stretch of the seven mile route each Saturday night.

Safety is our priority and for this reason work of this nature must be carried out while trains are not running. Under our licence conditions, we are contractually obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services. Unfortunately, this means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.

All staff and contractors are briefed on working responsibly in the local community.  We expect staff to be considerate, polite and courteous at all times.
